In olden days the Marthoma (Chaldaic Christians) at Arthikilangara(Arthunkal) built a Thatched chapel facing north in the name of St. Thomas. There they kept the Holy cross and the statue of St. Thomas and began worship. Portuguese missionaries changed name as 'Santhanthraos'(St.Andrews). (This St.Thomas Statue in the figure is kept in the south alter, of the new Arthunkal church).
