Krishnagiri is a municipal city and the headquarters of Krishnagiri District in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu.
It is a part of Kongu Nadu region of Tamilnadu ruled by the ancient Western Ganga Dynasty.See also Gounder (caste) for history.
Mango is cultivated as the main crop and its considered as the birth place for Mangoes.
Krishnagiri has a dam called KRP dam(Krishnagiri Reservoir project) stated in 1960\'s by the then chief minister Kamaraj.
Two Major National Highways viz NH 7 (Kanyakumari - Agra)and NH 46 (Chennai - Krishnagiri) meet here, making the town important for commuters and truck drivers.
